Founded on Two Wheels
As a massive bicycle craze sweeps North America, four major manufacturing pioneers pool their resources to form the Canada Cycle & Motor Co. Ltd.—instantly stamped into history as CCM. Operating out of Ontario, the brand quickly dominates production, manufacturing the vast majority of bicycles ridden across the country.
1905
The Winter Pivot
To keep factories humming during harsh winters, CCM makes a clever shift. Finding a surplus of tough bicycle frame steel on the factory floor, managers begin stamping it into rugged hockey skate blades. Engineered for brutal roads, this premium steel holds an edge better than any import, launching a winter sports powerhouse.
1937
Forging a Dual Legacy
CCM cements its place in sporting history by introducing the legendary CCM Tacks skate line. The reinforced boot and premium steel combo quickly becomes the absolute gold standard, worn by generations of elite athletes and families alike. For decades, CCM has operated as a true all-season powerhouse—building bikes for the summer and blades for the winter.
1983
One Iconic Brand, Two Distinct Paths
After nearly 80 years of operating under one roof, the changing global manufacturing landscape catches up with the giant, and CCM undergoes a major structural reorganization. To preserve the legendary name, the company splits into two, forming two highly successful, independent empires: the Hockey Division and the Bicycle Division.
